Most people would agree that creativity is essential for the survival of the human race. It’s how we innovate and develop new ideas and solutions. Creativity is a natural ability, but it doesn’t come easily to everyone. It requires a certain personality type to flourish. According to research, there are some traits that make a person more creative. These personality traits include being easily bored, being independent and having powerful emotions. Some researchers believe that being creative also has a genetic component.
Despite being incredibly passionate about the things they do, creative people often seem to be introverted. This is because they can focus so intensely on their work that it takes them away from outside stimulation. Creatives are also able to juggle seemingly contradictory modes of thought—cognitive and emotional, deliberate and spontaneous.
Another key trait of creative people is a sense of curiosity and the courage to break rules. They want to see what happens if they do something a little out of the ordinary, and are not deterred by the possibility that they may fail. Instead, they use the law of averages: they figure that if they try enough things, one of them will be a success.
These people are also often very stubborn, which can be a great asset or a terrible one. For example, they might refuse to accept a setback as a defeat and instead view it as an opportunity to revise their approach or learn a valuable lesson. They might also have a strong dose of libidinal energy, which is not necessarily sexual, but could be expressed in other ways. It’s important for creatives to have this libidinal energy because it allows them to bring ideas to life.
They might also be very stubborn about doing their own thing rather than conforming to the status quo in any sphere of life, whether it’s career, family or friendships. Occasionally, this can lead to conflict and even jealousy in other people, but it’s part of their nature. They do not fit into the ”mean girl” or ”shy guy” stereotypes, and they might even challenge gender norms by being more aggressive than other girls and boys. This is called psychological androgyny, or having the strengths of both masculine and feminine characteristics.
It’s important to note that this kind of behavior is not always welcome in our society, and many creative people will be challenged throughout their lives by a system that expects them to conform. They might be told to get a real job and not be so selfish or emotionally intense, or they might present themselves to the mental health system because it’s hard for them to control their emotions. Ultimately, though, it’s much better for people to follow their own passions than live in misery just because they can’t fit into the system. Trying to be someone else only leads to unhappiness and squanders their own unique gifts. Fortunately, it’s never too late to start living differently.
